New study on Ridge Preservation: collagen matrix as good as tissue from the palate

Ridge Preservation by transplanting connective tissue or using a collagen matrix? A current study shows that both are just as good. Plus: the matrix simplifies the procedure.
April 15, 2015

Italian researchers carried out a Ridge Preservation on each of 15 patients with Geistlich Bio-Oss® and epithelial connective tissue transplanted from the palate or the collagen matrix Geistlich Mucograft®.

Just as good - or even better?

After one year they judged both alternatives to be on a par according to all the examined criteria1:

  • same implant success
  • same implant survival
  • just as good vertical bone level preservation
  • just as good horizontal bone level preservation
  • just as good a preservation of peri-implant marginal ridge level

The big benefit of a collagen matrix here is: it simplifies the surgical procedure and lessens the pain involved in surgery2 as no autologous tissue needs to be taken from the palate.

Geistlich Mucograft®: copied from Mother Nature

Geistlich Mucograft® has been specifically developed for soft tissue regeneration in the oral cavity. In 2013 Geistlich Pharma additionally launched the collagen matrix in a circular shape of 8 mm in diameter. This especially tailors Geistlich Mucograft® Seal for Ridge Preservation.
