Morphological evidences of Bio-Oss® colonization by CD44-positive cells

The investigators examined the vascular and cellular colonization in anorganic bovine bone (ABB) after 6 months of healing in human maxillary sinus augmentation grafts. The results concluded that the use of Bio-Oss® bone substitute in sinus augmentation procedures demonstrated CD44-positive cell colonization in 74% of cases. Data suggests that CD44 cells may bind osteopontin, a bone matrix protein exhibiting cell-binding functions and angiogenesis.
