Bone loss

Bone loss can occur in the oral cavity for a variety of reasons:

  • Trauma
  • Inflammation of the gum tissue
  • Bacterial tooth plaque

Jaw bone height and thickness diminishes after tooth removal due to a lack of mechanical loading – meaning without function, the bone naturally begins to resorb and disappear.

However, sufficient bone volume is essential to ensure long-term stability and function of dental implants or teeth, as well as maintaining the esthetic appearance of the mouth, teeth and gums.
